Corporate Proofreading Course
Did you know that ProofingQueen teaches a Proofreading for Businesses and Ad Agencies course?
Whether you are a new or experienced editor or proofreader, consider adding ad agencies and businesses to your current roster of clients. Although this can be a very lucrative field, you’ll need to be aware of some nuances when working with marketing departments in corporations and with creative agencies.
Our five-week course covers a wide range of topics, with an optional mark-your-own assignment at the end of each week:
- Week 1 provides an overview of corporate proofreading, including some fact-checking basics (and, yes, fact-checking is a very important tool for a corporate proofreader!)
- Week 2, which gets into the nitty-gritty of proofreading for businesses and ad agencies, includes a detailed checklist specifically designed for corporate proofreaders
- Week 3 covers more about fact-checking and touches on some mechanics of writing
- Week 4 reviews using – and creating – a basic style sheet
- Week 5 gets into the markup of text-based documents and PDFs

Comments from Past Students
“Sharon’s course is fantastic! The tips she provides on how to best help clients, pitfalls to watch out for, and tools of the trade were incredibly valuable—and I feel far more confident about starting freelancing after taking this course! Sharon was very supportive and encouraging—her enthusiasm for her chosen profession and teaching others is abundantly clear! – K.R.
“I liked how thorough Sharon was with the materials. She didn’t hold back on the tools of the trade, giving us a detailed checklist of things to proofread for as well as lists of proofreading and fact-checking resources. I love that the assignments were short but filled with errors to catch. Supereffective without taking up too much time.” – D.F.B.
