AI POLICY

Our Philosophy

Although artificial intelligence (AI) is a tool that is constantly evolving, at ProofingQueen we do not think it’s a replacement for our detailed level of in-person work. We believe that we owe our clients our full personal and individual attention at all times. We bring skills and talents a chatbot cannot (at least, not currently!) match, such as nuance, patience, humour, cultural context, ethical guidance, creativity, empathy, authenticity and emotional intelligence.

Our Promise

We do not and will not use generative AI tools to proofread any client materials. However, if for some reason a ProofingQueen client was to request that we use AI to proofread, we would ask them to confirm that request in writing.

Fact-Checking

On occasions when a fact is challenging to check, we may use one or more generative AI tools to support our fact-checking efforts. However, we will absolutely double-check (and triple-check, if possible) any and all facts delivered as a result of an AI-assisted search.

Privacy and Compliance

We are committed to the protection of our clients’ privacy and intellectual property, and we will never knowingly input proprietary client information or confidential data into an AI system or tool.

Environmental Impact of AI

Before using AI tools, we hope that everyone would consider the potential environmental impact of doing so. The June 4, 2026 issue of the United Nations Climate and Environment UN News (https://news.un.org/en/story/2026/06/1167658) reports that “Data centres, the global infrastructure powering AI, could consume 945 terawatt-hours of electricity annually by 2030 – nearly triple the combined annual electricity use of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nigeria, countries collectively home to more than 650 million people. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg. On top of the carbon footprint, every unit of electricity used by data centres also carries a ‘water footprint’ for cooling and energy production, and a ‘land footprint’ associated with power generation and supply chains.”

Policy Application

This policy, created on September 23, 2026, applies to all proofreading and fact-checking work performed by ProofingQueen, including work completed by Sharon McInnis, owner of ProofingQueen and CEO (Chief Error Officer) and any subcontractors, and relates to the use of generative AI tools such as Chat GPT, Claude, etc.
